On a clear Saturday Morning, I received the inspiration to go to Assateague Island for a visit to the shore. Being by the ocean has always been a place of profound healing and connection for me. Assateague beach has also been a place that the veil between Spirit and myself is particularly thin, and I have received important messages or had profound insight in audible book I am listening to while I am walking the long beach. I assumed I would be getting a message of some sort, as I had no plans when I first woke up that this was a destination today.

As my car proceeded down now familiar roads, I started feeling a heightened energy around me. I turned at Frontier Town to make the last trek to Assateague National State Park. It is a beautiful, and as Pooh would say, a blustery day indeed and knew the waters would be choppy and it would be windy on the beach, but I loved days like this. It usually meant little people traffic so there was a high probability I would be by myself. That always made me happy! However, as I got closer to the Assateague Visitor Center, my intuition said I was to stop at the Visitor Center today. Thinking that may not be a bad idea, as they have “real” bathroom facilities and not the Dr. Who looking transporter devices, that we call Spot-a-pot. When I was now ready to proceed back to the truck, I realized I had never gone to the end of the ramp to the observation/kodak picture opportunity and thought it would be a great picture. I could just make out the blue on the horizon past the deck and the sun had no competition from any clouds today.

On my walk back from the ramp, there was a side handicapped ramp and what appeared to be a trail that went back to the woods. I knew my next adventure was spirit was not on the beach, at first anyway, but a new trail awaited me to go and explore. So like Indiana Jones I went off to take pictures and write about. The trail took you along the water’s edge of the Sinepuxent bay. There were many little alcoves where the trees parted and you could get to the water’s edge. It was beautiful views. As I proceeded along, I could see in front of me a canopy of trees starting to form in front of me. I love trees, especially then they resemble a roof or temple over my head. As I continued to walk forward, the trees appeared to be bowing into each o there and a natural window like long doorway appeared, and I had to stop. It was absolutely breathtaking. It was natures chapel and I felt by starting down this path there was a journey I was going to be making and when I reached the end it would be life changing.

I walked the path forward, and the sunlight dimmed inside to create almost a mood enhancer to feel like you were entering a cave. All I could do is walk forward and be present in the moment. At times, the limbs were almost bowed down to the ground and I had to bend to go underneath of them, and other times they were soaring above me. It twisted in slow curves. It was similar to a feeling of walking a labyrinth. Bringing into the tree chapel thoughts, concerns and problems with prayers on my mind. I walked slowly and thoughtfully enjoying every moment of this embrace by the trees. The trees were knurled and twisted with minimum leaves. I wondered if all the people that had walked through this grove left so many problems and issues that the trees were labored down with the heaviness of the pain and grief. They poured healing energy back to the souls needed healing, but in turn it took something out of them. They gave unconditionally, with a knowing they were doing their part to help heal the planet.

Eventually, the thicket started getting less dense and the trees became sparser and the light was allowed to shine through the branches. It would lead me out to the open and I saw an arrow sign that said “Rackliffe House 500ft”

I saw to my amazement, a complex of small structures and a fairly large brick house, that showed it had stood standing on this land for quite some time. The house belonged to one Captain Charles Rackliffe who was a merchant-planter. The house was built in 1700’s but had been beautifully restored and was open for tours in season. Unfortunately, I was not there in season, but that was okay. It allowed me to explore the grounds and the small buildings on my own. Exploration like this always thrills me. Looking into windows, using my imagination to what life must have been like, feeling the energy of the place was so much fun. I stood on the front porch actually in the deep door well, and when you looked out you could see an unobstructed view of the bay in front of me. There was one very large tree in the path that obstructed a completely clear view of the whole bay. I wondered if Captain Charles used the bay for transporting any of his product to other ports. It was a beautiful view and felt how amazing it would be to be able to look out my front bay facing windows and see this view. I am sure they would have been isolated from other people so you could romp, play and explore to a child’s hearts content.

I saw in the rear of the property a field that maybe at one time belonged to the plantation, but now was occupied by a gold course, a small pond and some of the golf course on it. At the other end of the back property, you could see a information board and the start of a trail……

And so the story continues for another time……..
